As indicações ao Emmy de 2020 chegaram! Como sempre, a HBO dominou o processo, mas foi uma série limitada Watchmen que levou o topo. A adaptação radical de Damon Lindelof ao romance gráfico alcançou 26 indicações no total, mais do que qualquer outro programa, incluindo metade das indicações de diretor e acena para Regina King, Jean Smart, Jeremy Irons, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jovan Adepo e Louis Gossett Jr.
No lado de Melhor Série Dramática, Succession e Ozark parecem ser os dois pioneiros, mas foi o The Mandalorian que surpreendeu com uma indicação na categoria principal (embora nenhum ator, escritor ou diretor de nomeação). A série Disney + superou o programa The Morning Show da Apple TV + nessa categoria superior, embora o drama da Apple tenha apresentado nomes sólidos de atuação e algumas outras indicações também.
Quanto às comédias, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel é mais uma vez uma das principais candidatas, mas também a temporada final de Schitt’s Creek e The Good Place, que obteve várias indicações.
No que diz respeito aos desprezos, o Westworld ficou aquém do sucesso anterior em sua terceira temporada, um tanto reiniciada, marcando apenas indicações como Thandie Newton e Jeffrey Wright nas principais categorias. E embora Paul Mescal tenha sido nomeado corretamente como Melhor Ator em uma Série Limitada, estou desanimado que a brilhante série Hulu, Normal People, não tenha mais amor. Ditto Hulu, The Great, que absolutamente mereceu um aceno pela incrível performance cômica de Nicholas Hoult. E a eterna dama de honra Late Night with Seth Meyers não obteve a indicação de Melhor Variety Talk Show mais uma vez, embora a equipe de redação do programa tenha sido reconhecida com razão.
O Primetime Emmy Awards de 2020 está programado para ir ao ar na ABC no dia 20 de setembro, com Jimmy Kimmel apresentando. De fato, ainda não sabemos como o show será realizado se será totalmente virtual, se algumas pessoas se reunirão em um pequeno teatro ou se será uma mistura dos dois. Mas Kimmel e os produtores estão seguindo em frente, e sabemos que pelo menos será diferente de qualquer outra cerimônia do Emmy na história.
